Sculptural Art & Products
Yanna loves creating original sculptural forms, born from curious experimentation and imaginative combination of materials. She is passionate about the nature of glass because of its unique light contrasting and colour qualities, as well as its fragility and strength wrapped into one. Alongside the innate qualities of the raw material, the process of glass formation in the kiln affords an element of surprise, whereby unexpected results (“happy accidents”) occur, and she is always keen to investigate these further. Glass is the vehicle for her thoughts, not just another material to express her ideas in.
Her practice evolves around joyous play with the material as well as pushing the technical boundaries to create unique textures, colours and glass forms, often combined with other materials, such as metals. Her aim is to produce objects that can exist around “the everyday”, which will bring about a sense of enjoyment, evoke emotion and enhance people’s life experience.
In recent years, her main source of inspiration / themes have developed around family closeness, the concept of home, fleeting time and fantasy. Yanna likes to revisit these themes after some time has elapsed and push her ideas further in her favourite mediume.
